dir LISSANT CLAXTON’S CAMPAIGN.
Mr Lissant Clayton is onergetioally pushing bis candidature throughout the country, and considerable enthusiasm hus been evinced at the various centres, Last night Mr Clayton addressed the eleotors at Te Aral. The schoolroom, in which the meeting was held, was fall, and Mr Baird presided. The speech was somewhat on the same lines as those previously delivered, and was listened to with marked interest. At the conclusion of the speech a vote of confidence was proposed, and there was every indication that it would have been carried with enthusiasm, but the candidate rose and said ho preferred that the vote of confidence be left to the ballot box. ~ , , A vote of thanks was then proposed by Mr Mnnro, seconded by Mr Ferguson, and carried with very warm applause. Several questions were pus after the address and answered to the satisfaction of the questioners. In reply to Mr Hill, Mr Clayton made it clearly understood that he was opposed to the principle of co-operative labor, mainly on the grounds of the excessive cost of administration, and that he considered it brought the good workmen down to the level of th 6 bad. The candidate also in reply to questions, made his views clear on tho subject of the freehold. In reply to Mr Weber, as to whether the State should make a profit out of the railways, he said bo considered the Stats should certainly receive the interest on the money borrowed, after that was cleared'off it was not the policy of the State to Beek to make profit put of the railways. The benefit should be given to the users of the , railway. [
