DRUIDS’ SOCIAL.

There was a large attendance at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, when the Turanganui Lodge of Druids revived the popular " basket social.” Over one hundred couples took part in the grand maroh. which was headed by Druids in regalia, The drees circle was well patronised. The following members worked assiduously to make the social a sueoess: Bros. G. E. Darton, A. Pool, H. Miller, A. Park, F. Palmer, A, Wade, A. Alloo, C, Neenan, H. R. Simeon, L. C. Allen, A. Sawyer (jun.), J. Smith, P. Maher, G. Miller, S. Breingan W. Heaney, and Seymour; the secretaries (Bros. J. A. Eaton and W. Lewis) were untiring in their efforts towards the comfort of their guests. Bros. H. Milier, G. Goldsmith, S. Breingan, T. Spiers, A. Pool, and A. Sawyer made very efficient Masters of Ceremonies. The sale of work was looked forward to with tho greatest interest, and fully 140 baskets came before the judges, Messrs J. A. Harding and A. F. Kennedy. The majority of the baskets were well provisioned, and many of them were very artistically designed. The first prize for the best provisioned basket fell to Mrs G. Simeon and Miss Lily Morris secured second honors; Mrs Ledger’s being highly recommended. The sale of work was conduoted by Bros. HeaDy and Miller, and the competition for the various baskets was spirited. The prize basket was first offered, and was disposed of for 225. The other baskets ranged from 2s 6d to 16s, totalling over £l9. The music was supplied by Miss Moore and Mr Lichtwark. Dancing was carried on nntil an early hour this morning. The committee deserve every congratulation for the successful manner in which the social was carried i out, and the financial result ahonld con- \ siderably augment too social fund of the 1 Order.
