AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
.(Pen Press Association.) (Auckland, last night. At the golf tonrnament the third round of the Amateur Championship was. gone through. The result of the day’s play left Messrs Burns, A. Duncan, K. Duncan, and Fisher in the championship^ A good deal of attention was given to the meeting of A. Dunoan (Wellington) and J. Harold (Wanganni.) The game was won by the former, with 6 np and 4 to play. Both of these players started well. Duncan won the second hole, but lost the third, whioh made them all even. Dnncan won the fourth, and with'a luoky.shot took the fifth. From this out Dnnoan gradually forged ahead and won. Another close and interesting game was witnessed in the contest between K. Dnncan end K. Tareha (ex champion). At the 14th hole they were level, and at the 16th Dunoan was one np. The 18th bole being halved, Duncan won by tbs narrow majority of one up. T. Gould (Wellington) captured the bogie event with 3up on bogie. In the oiroumstanoeß Mr Gould’s performance was a highly oreditable one. He, however, U stood out by himself, for the soores iu this-*!* event were deoidedly below the average. v The following are the scores for the championship, third round—Barns (Auckland) beat T,. Gould (Wellington) six up and five to play, A. Dunoan (Wellington) beat J. Harold (Wanganui) five up and four to play, K. Dunean (Wellington) beat K. Tareha (Napier) one up, A. H. Fisher (Otago) beat F. L Gordon (Napier) three up and one to play.
