I Tho Coroner hold an inquiry at Mount . I Albert into oiromnstaoces attending tho ' death of a single woman named Elizabeth I Jane Bennett. Deoeasod’s sister, upon I entering her bedroom, notiood a strong j I small of phosphorus, while dacoasoa bar* i I seif, who was in bed, soomed lo bo in a ■ semi-dazed condition. Dr Robertson was ' sent for and emetics wero administered, I but beforo tho dootor’s arrival the woman I was dead. Dr Robertson said that on conI ducting a post mortem examination ho I discovered all tho ovidonoo of t phosphoric I poisouing.' Tho causa of death in witness’ I opinion was acute phosphoric poisoning. I Dr Robertson said that ho had previously I attended deoeasod, who seemed to bo in a I wild, irritable state. She did not seem to I be at all dangerous, however, either to horI self or to others. She appeared at times quite rational, and although deoidodly eo. centric was not snifioientlv peculiar to warrant being plaoed under any particular restraint. She seemed to bo mostly in a worried, hysterioal slate. A verdiot was returned that deoeased came by her death " through phosphorous poisoning, tho poison being self-administered while dooeasod was of unsouud mind.” j
Albert Collins, laborer, at Tuakau, attempted suicide by inflicting three wouncla in the throat with a razor, one just touching his wind-pipe. He was taken to tbe Auckland hospital, and will probably recover.
