GOLF.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
For tbo amateur championship of New Zealand 29 players have entered, including A. H. Fisher (the present champion), Kurepo Tareha (champion 1903), and A. Duncan (champion 1899, 1900, 1901), in additional to provincial champions and other golfers of nets. The first round of the championship was p'ayed yesterday afternooD, the second round is to be played to-day, the third on Wednesday, the fourth on-Thursday, and the final on Friday, All preliminary rounds start at 2 p.m. each day. The first round of the final will oommenoe at 10 a,m, on Friday, and the second round will be played on the afternoon of tbo Bame day, commencing at 2 p.m. ' The other events have also attracted ' large fields, and will bo played as under : —Bogey handicap, of 18 boles, Wednesday ; Saturday, foursome medal handicap, 18 holes, and medal handicap, 18 holes. A continuous putting match will take place on the olubbouse green throughout the week (18 holes), the winner of which will receive a trophy. Tho inter-club challenge vase (presented by Mr E. D. O’Borke), for teams of four players from eaoh club, will be decided on the aggregate gross score of each team in the medal handicap.
On Friday evening nest the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council will be held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms, and will be attended by delegates from the several affiliated clubs.
