Here most of the casualties happened. Men were blown to fragments hundreds of yards into the water, which was crimsoned with their blood. A large percentage wore BCalded to doath, and were unidentifiable. Many were below battling with the flames whon the vessel foundered. “The report of tho explosions resounded from far distant hills.
