CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
A LADY’S LEGACY. (Per Press Asnocia'tiou.) Christchurch, last night. The Premier has written to Mr Yonch, Secretary of the Canterbury Sooiely for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, stating | the Society’s Bill dealing with the prevention of cruc'ty had been handed to Sir Joseph Ward, who would take on early opportunity of bringing it forward. The secretary of the earns Society received a letter on Saturday from the Trustee?, Executors, and Agency Company, of Melbourne, stating that by the terms of the will of Mrs Catherine Barratt, of Murchison, Victoria, who died on July 20th, tho Canterbury Society is entitled to an equal sharo with the Melbourne and Sydney Societies in an estate valued at .£2545. Mrs Barratt was formerly a resident of Canterbury. Copies of the Sooiety’s annual report were sent to her regularly during late years,
