EDUCATION BOARDS.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, yesterday. The Education Boards’ Confsrence resumed this morning. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Pirani that it is desirable that all school books and requisites for use in public sobools should be supplied by the State, the pupils providing only books for home lessons. This motion provoked a long discussion, and was carried by 20 to 13. Wellington, last night. It was resolved that the attention of the Minister of Education be called to the difficulty of obtaining teachers for email oountry sohools, tho nood for fixing a minimum salary for toaobers of schools under fifteen average attendance, and the need for a more liberal grant for the conveyance of children to and from schools; also that in case of Binall groups of children id isolatod places Boards be authorised by law lo make tho best arrangements they can in tho direction of conveying sack children to suitable sohools in the vioinitv.

On the motion of Mr Pirani (Wanganui) waa resolved that teotion 57 of the Eduoation Aot be amended to provide for the tronafer or exohaDgo of teaobers when sooh a course is considered neoessary in the interests of schools affected. Mr Westall (Hawke’s Bay) moved, and Mr McDonald (Wellington) seoonded, that it is desirable that payment on average attendance bo abolished and a fixed salary | substituted. Mr Gray (Wanganui) suggested that a better motion would be that in estimating the salaries of teaobers the obiefjjdetermiuing factors should be efficiency in literary qualifications. Length of service and overage attendance should be small considerations in tbo matter. It was decided after a short disoussion that Mr Westall’s motion should bo allowed to give place to Mr Gray’a suggestion, and the latter heootae the sub.. Motive motion.
