He oould place his finger on them all. There was a fairly large attendance at the Theatre Boyai last evening, when the Rev, D. Parry delivered an exceedingly interesting address entitled “ Christianity or Spiritualism—which ? ” the lecture being a reply to Madame Holler. The reverend gentleman dealt with his subject in a most able manner, and reoeived a most attentive hearing. The annnal bulb and spring flower show in connection with the Poverty Boy Horticultural Society will be held this afternoon and evening, and should attract a large gathering. The doors will be open from 2.30 to 7.30 pm. The City Band will give a ooncert in the evening, commencing at 8 o'olook. Mr C. E. Gibberd, formerly of Napier, has been appointed manager of Messrs Ballenstein Bros, business in

Gisborne to succeed Mr Griffiths, who has been in charge for the last fifteen months. Mr Griffiths has earned the goodwill of his firm, and will take up; a position in their Auckland branch, and his many friends in Gisborne will always be pleased to hear of his further advancement. Mr Gibberd, whose business experience has been gained at Home, in other colonies and here, will do his best to ensure a continuanoe of

the confidence of the many friends and customers of the firm in Gisborne and district.

A second interim return of the number of Bheep in the colony to April 30 gives the total net increase for the colony as 850,069. The increase for the North Island is given as 184,642, and for the South Island as 665,428. The sheep rate for 1905 has increased by £BSO, being n0w£19,130. The total number of sheep in the colony on the kbove date .was 19,130,875 — Auckland 619,337, Napier 4,584,165, Wellington-West Coast 4,185,103, Marlborough-Nelson 954,249, Canterbury - Kaikoura 5,240,253, Otago 3,547,768. The question of reference hooka in the

local Law Library drew a remark from Hia Honor Mr Justice Edward- yesterday that application had been made for constituting a separate judicial district without consulting him, the least that might have been done, He pointed out that the Auckland Law Library had reoeived no funds from this district and had been asked for none. Explanations ensued, with an apology to His Honor on behalf of the local bar. It appears that funds are held locally, bat the faot has not been widely advertised lest the Auoklanders or a keen-eyed* Colonial Treasurer should swoop down on tho little nest egg. His Honor smiled, but pointed out what would have happened had he been an obstructloDist. Dr Bamford said he wonld represent the views held in Gisborne to the Auckland Sooiety.
