TURANGANUI LIBRARY.
OPENING OF NEW PREMISES.
The Turanganui Public Library, in its new premises, the uppor storey of Mr H. J. Bushneli’s fine new building, was opened to the publio laßt evening. A very large number accepted the committee’s invitation to inspect the new rooms, and the ready response of the public augurs well for the future sucoess of the institution.
His Worship the Mayor opened the Library. He referred to the many difficulties they had to contend with when it waa first started, about 80 years ago. These had been overcome, and the present Library was a credit to the town. The entrance to the building is from Feel street, and the stairway leads on to a landing with the door of the reading-room on the left band and the Library on the right. The former is equipped with the most modern appurtenances, including a stand for newspapers, from the Christbhuroh Library design. The Committee worked indefatigably in transferring the | books from the old Library to the new, the books being arranged upon the shelves as soon as the latter were ready for them. There is a fine array of books, and a number of new ones are on their way out from England. The main room leads into the reference Library, whioh has a commanding view of Feel street and Gladstone road. With the handsome donations of two local station-owners a very serviceable reference Library should be obtained. The social room also opens from the main room, and should bo muoh availed of by subscribers#
