Our Whatatutu correspondent telephoned last evening : A very successful meeting of the Poverty Bay Provincial Exeoutive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Whatatutu this evening, Mr Geoffrey MoLean presiding. Mr W- K. Chambers (president) and Mr A. B. Watson (vice-president) gave able addresses, '-which wero enthusiastically received. ’

• Mr W. Lissant Clayton (provincial secretary) also spoke on the freehold tenure question and Farmers’ Union matters generally. After the addresses had been delivered a branch of the Farmers’ Union was formed, with its headquarters at Whatatutu. Mr A. Heggarty was elected president, Mr W. Hay vice-president, and Mr B. S. Barton secretary. A committee was appointed to canvass the district for new members.

There are good prospects of a powerful branch being|formed amongst the settlers of Whatatutu and Waipaoa. The Provincial, Exeoutive will hold a meetiDg at Te Karaka to-morrow (Friday) evening, at whioh Mr W. Morgan will speak on rural technical education.
