A SAD STORY.

A rather gruesome story comes from Tuparoa in connection with the losb of a native ohild a couple of months ago. The little one wandered into the bush. It is stated that although the night after the child strayed away was a beautiful moonlight one, none of the natives, of whom there were many about, would dare venture':in searoh of the poor little wanderer out in the cold. Some few afterwards made search, but one went to consult a wizard, and after boing informed that seven spirits had taken the child away, they gave up all further search. A ohild of such tender years would not have strayed far into the bush. ,•
