Tho Haupiri arrived from Auckland on Saturdoy night, lauding passengers at daybreak on Sanday, but owing to the difficulty in landing at high lido, passod on to Tokomaru Bay, returning hero about midday. Tho beach,, having altered considerably, made landing very difficult, and some of the oargo was again carried on in consequonoo. A meeting is to bo hold very shortly to discuss the building of a publio hall—tho one thing that is badly wanted in Waipiro. Our township is still progressing and many alterations being mado. Tho latest addition is a butcher’s shop noxt to Mr Durrant’s store. The now Post Office is all but finished, and everyone is looking forward to tho opening day.

.TOKOMARU BAX, (From Our- Down Correspondent.) September 4. At last the severest winter we have experienced on the Coast for many years is about at an end. Fruit trees are out in bloom, and willows are beginning to look green, and there is a slight spring in the grass, The roads all along tho Coast have Buffered heavily during the winter, and a

large expenditure will be neoessary in repairs before tho wool season comes on to get the roads in order for carting. The contraot has been.let for the wool stores and reoelving ,’shed at Waima, Donation Bros..being the suooesßful tenderers at £461. Only one other tender was reoeived, which was considerably over £SOO. . ■ . The site for a new cemetery is being surveyed; Our member,' the Hon. J. Carroll, having undertaken to see the matter through, we should now be in a fair way to accomplish this muoh needed work. Lambs are reported to be plentiful all over the district, considering the winter we have had this is moat gratifying news.

The Haupiri was in yesterday, and landed passengers and oargo- She then returned to Waipiro to land oargo. The football cup and banner is again retained by the Tokomaru Club, both Waipiro aud Wbangara forfeiting the last two games, thus leaving Tokomaru winners by two points.

(By Our Own Correspondent.) .Sept 4. A social and dance was held in the

Pakarao Hali on Saturday evening last in aid of a Maori family who had their whare and all their belongings destroyed by fire about three weeks ago. By a voluntary subscription a few pounds were obtained, which will help to relieve the present necessities of the unfortunate natives. .
