(Per Press Association.) i Christchurch, last night.

At a meeting of the Sooi3ty for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last night, the inspector reported a case of horrible cruelty on the part of a youth who had plaoed a cat in a box covered with netting, and bad speared tbe animal several limes with the sharp end of a file. Tbe oat's screamß brought several neighbors on tbs spot, and in the exoitement the cat escaped. It was not discovered till two days eastwards, when it was found to bs suffering terrible wounds as a result of the spearing. Tbe inspector also stated that an infonui--tion had been laid against the offender. - y\
