HIBERNIAN SOCIAL.
A MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The members of the Hibernian Society are to be heartily congratulated on the sncoess of their annual Social, whioh was held in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. Upwards of a hundred couples were present, and the excellent arrangements made by the committee for the gathering assured a most onjoyable evening. Since its formation in Maroh of the Society has gone on steadily increasing until a membership of upwards of sixty has boon reached, and this number promises to be substantially increased in the near future. A pleasing feature of last evening’s reunion was the cordial manner in which all other Friendly Societies joined in adding to its sucoess, there being representatives present from every Lodge in the district. The ladies and gentlemen were I heartily welcomed by the Secretary (Mr G Gratz), who conveyed to them the heartiest fcolings of goodwill and friendship from the Hibernian Society. Replying to the welcome, Mr P. Maher, as representing tbo Turanganui Lodge of Druids, expressed pleasure at being present, and spoke at some length on the advantages of Friendly Societies. Mr Stewart also replied on behalf of the same lodge. Mr R. The dance programme was most successfully arranged and the twenty-two danoes weso over all too soon for those participating. Messrs W. Webb and A. Sawyer were tbe Mastors of Ceremonies, whioh duties they ably performed. The music, whioh was the subject of muoh pleasing comment, was provided by. Miss Moore (piano) and Mr IjiLohtwark (violin), a most popular selection of pieoes boiDg rendered. The catering, in tbe capable bands of Mrs Erskine, left nothing to bo desired. Tbo tables, which were heavily laden with the ohoicest of viands, wore prettily and artistically arranged, a special feature being made of tbe floral deooratioos. A number of vooal nombors were contributed during the evening, amongst which mention should be made of the comio items by Mr Collier, his songs 11 Old Brown ” and 11 All Through a Little Piece of Bsoon ” boiDg most enthusiastically euoored.
