BATTLESHIP SHIELD.

'(Per Press Association.) Timaru, last night.

Word has been received here from Lord Ranfurly of the successful consummation of the movement initiated in Timaru for a presentation to the battleship New Zealand. Lord Ranfurly says the shield and bell were admired by His Majesty, the King and Prince of Wales, His Majesty being specially impressed with the fact that the presents came from the loyal school children of the oolony. The London Times says this is probably the only case where one of His Majesty’s ships has received a gift from school ohildren. Lord Ranfurly also sent a letter from Captain Paul Bush, who writes on behalf of the officers aDd ship’s company of H.M.S. New Zealand, expressing gratitude for the extremely handsome bell and shield. The New Zealand is now on commission with the Atlantio squadron.
