FIRES.
(Per Press Asaociaticn.) Wanganui, last night. A fire this morning destroyed a two* storoy workshop owned by D. and occupied by Mr Andrew Thompson} builder and contractor, who was uninsured, and lost all the contents of the shop, including an engine, machinery and tools valued at £l6O. Three other carpenters lost all their tools, one chest being valued st £3O.
Blenheim, last night. A fire whioh broke oat about 4 o’olock this morning destroyed a grain store in the vicinity of the Blenheim railway station, owned by Mrs Clpustoa and leased by Mr Arthur Wiffen ’ (Otago Malting Company). The store contained a large stock of produoe, and this is practioally destroyed or ruined, tho greater proportion being barley, in whioh there were 3000 sacks in storage for Wifion’s clients. The stook was insured for £4OOO in tho Manchester office—the reinsurances have not yet been ascertained—and the building for £SOO in the National office. Wiffen’s loss is considerable. In addition to barley there, wore about 10,000 sacks of wheat and a' less qqsntity of oats, besides quantities of oowgrass and other seed. It is not known how the fire originated.
