EAST COAST NEWS.

THE RECENT STORM.

At Awanui the recent storms have brought down heavy Blip 1 *, and it is neoes* sary to go very low down on the rooks to avoid the slips. An extensive erosion has been made, and for a time the engulphiDg of the Bose Hotel stable was threatened, the waves dashing right over the roof. Boyd’s store on the beach was undermined and it would not have required a great deal more to upset it. The piles »- ore'' oorner of the new blacksmith’s shop were dislodged. The embankment fronting the Rose Hotel was portly undermined, and were it pot for the strong embankment the hotel itself would have gone. At TokomaiO Hill, for about a mile of the road, the side of the hill has bodily slipped, leaving a yawning chasm. In somo places a portion of the road has sunk eighteen inches, while in other places the e£eot has been to raise the road by preseure from below.
