While a number of young men and women were holding a choir practice in the Wesleyan Church at Archhill on the evening of the 2nd they were disturbed by the youths, who were in the yard next to the church, A prop with old bags tied on |the end was put through the vestry, door, and missiles were thrown. When a young man went out to see who was putting the prop through the door and, rattling the windows, he was met with a splash of mud in his face. One larrikin used indecent language and wanted to fight, In consequence of jthe boys’ conduct, the choir had to abandon practice for the night. The culprits were brought, before the Court and fined. At Auckland Dr R. Stopford was oharged with driving a motor car from Queen street into Wellesley street on the wrong side. Dr Stopford said he admitted being on the right-hand side, but contended that he took the most practicable course. He was making haste to ah urgent case. Inspector Turner said the doctor was ■ driving a motor car, and it left the marks of its course in the slush. The doctor said he hoped that Mr Turner would act a little “ more decently ” next time. He considered the inspector should have stopped him and he might have given him an explanation. Mr Turner : I have stood more from you than I shalldo in the future. The doctor (smiling) : I am going home now; you may have a drive with me if you like. A fine of 10s and costs was inflicted.
