FOOTBALL.

The team ohosen to play against the Waiapu sub-Union next Saturday shows that the selectors have been following the play very closely. Each of the forwards well deserves his plaoo, and tho backs, though looking combination, should give a good account of themselves. The following is a short description of the merits of the players:— Full-back—B. Rowe! Best defensive player on tho side ; does all hiß Work in a finished manner, and could be played on the threo-quartor line without weakening the team.

Wiog three-quarter—G. Nolan: A fine resouroeful player, revols in defensive work, and can always bo reokoned upon in getting his side out of a tight fix. Strong in attack.

Centre—W. Hay : A good passing back, plnys with a lot of judgment, and is cool and reliable. Would bo of more servioe behind the Bcrum.

Three-quarter Delamere : Splendid kick, and strong aggressive player. Has played several brilliant games for his side at five-eighths. Five-eighths—Robinson : Strong in all departments of the game. Makes splendid openings, and passes well. Would make a good Bkipper. Five-eighths—Brown : Strong defensive player; has not struck proper form this season. Good half.

Half—Bongo: Gets the ball nioely away from the sorutn and makes good openings, but does not got [down to the foot rushes.

Wing—Skeei: A fast daßhiog forward, clever with his feet, strong in defenco, but should afford bin half more protection.

Forwards —Freer, Shorratt, ParkerTurei and Wepiha have represented Poverty Bay so often that a description of their respective merits would bo superfluous.

Of the new players Leydon in the lock is one of tho fmest grafters that Poverty Bay haß hod for years. He gets through an immense amount of work, and satisfactorily ucoounts for the man he is set to mark. Sharp is a young player of much prom'ae. He plays with great dash and puts his weight into tho scrum. Thompson is also a solid grafter, and well deserves bis plane in the team. ,
