The organ of the German Navy League states that the now Navy Bill to be introduced into the Reiohstag in the autumn will include provision for six armored cruisers of 15,000 tons, which previously had been refused. Athens, August 17. Skirmishos occurred between British troops and insurgents in Crete. Two persons were wounded. Russian troops are also fighting a revolution in Retimo district. Singapore, Aug. 17. The Chinese attacked a Dutch post at Ramborg and killed a lieutenant, sergoant and 22 men, and wounded six, *• Christiania, August 17. The final result of the Norwegian referendum on the question of dissolving the union with Sweden is 368,200 in favor of dissolution, and 184 against. Sydney, August 18. Christ Church, in George street, one of the oldest Anglican churches in;the city, was partly destroyed by fire this morning. The roof of the organ loft and the instrument was burnt. While|the steamer Prince Waldemar was at Kobe the {body of a murdered Japanese woman was found on deck, pinioned and strangled with a towel. A search led to the discovery of 14 Japanese girls, stowaways for Hongkong. Two of the Malay crew were arrested on suspicion' of being concerned in the murder, and together with the stowaways were landed at a Japanese port. Melbourne, Aug. 18. Sir W. Lyne, referring to the statement of the Daily Chronicle’s Ottawa correspondent, said he sees no necessity for the Commonwealth to have a representative in America to find out the prices there. The Canadian Commissioner of Customs had already informed him that it was inadvisable for the officers of Customs to supply the information asked by him in regard to the cost of certain articles.
