CONCERT AT TE ARAI.

There was a orowded house at the concert given in the Te Arai sohoolroom on Thursday evening in aid of the pioDio fund, A capital programme was submitted and each item was excellently rendered. After a pretty piano duet played in a tasteful manner by Misses Kirk and Green, Mr A. Zachariah sang that popular number, " Down where the Wurzburgor Plows." He was accorded a tremendous reoeption, and in response to an imperative encore gave “ I Think We Shall Have Some Rain,” a fact whioh few dis puted. “ The Swallows " was artistioally rendered by Miss Donnelly, and Mr H. DeCosta mado a great hit with “ Under the Bamboo Tree.” 11 The Veteran’s Song ” by Mr J. Allen was another excellent item. Mr P. Ferguson made a good impression in 11 The Christening,” whilst Master Peta te Hau was encored for the song 11 Two Little Orphans.” Mr Von Pein recited in good Btyle “ The Fireman,” and Mr A. Zechariah gained additional honors for his spirited rendering of “Oompah,” for which he was several timeß recalled. Miss Donnelly’s second eong, “ Daddy,” was prettily rendered and encored, whilst Mr J. Allen was also successful in his second number. Mr DeCosta I brought down the'house with the ever I popular song 11 Rags,” which went with a good swing throughout. Mr W. Gibson gave a masterly interpretation of the refutation, " Rubenslein’s Piano Playing,” the piece being greatly appreciated. A song by Mr James Carroll was well received, as also were the comic specialities by Mr A. Zachnriah, and the recitations by Messrs I Von Pein and Ferguson. Miss Karaitiana played the accompaniment* in a finished maonor, and added greatly to the success of the concert. Mr Daulton, on behalf of the school committee, briefly returned thanks to the vocalists who had given their services and to the audience for their patronage. The concert terminated with a dance, whioh was kept up until an early hour in the morning.
