Considerable friction exists at present between the friendly society lodges at Motu eka and Riwaka and the Nelson branch of the British Medical Association. Tne lodges referred to some time ago resolved to get medloal attendance fo: their wives and families, the limit for the children oeiDg twelve years flf age. The m ® d,ca ' officer of the lodges refused to accept toe new proposals, and after some negotiations a doctor was obtained from Christchurch, Tho Motueka doctor and the Nelson dootors (who are all members of the Medical Association) have refused to recognise the new doctor. The psßition is serious, inasmuch as in case of important operations, where assistance is required, or fpr the purpose of consultation, the Motueka Friendly Societies’ medical officer can get no help. The Nelson lodges are being approached in connection with the matter, and what the upshot will be if the Nelson lodges beoame involved in the dispute it is impossible to say.
