LAND fOE SETTLEMENT,

At the public meeting held in the Tolago Bay Hotel on Saturday evening to discuss a petition to the Government to acquire land in the immediate vicinity and cut it up for close settlement, there was a large attendj ance, Dr. J, S. Reekie presiding.
After an interesting disoußsion tho following resolutions woro carried, to bo forwardod to tho Hon. Jamoa Carroll:— ... (1) That an offort bo mndo to bring about tho subdivision and sottlemont of tho sovoral and oxtonsivo areas of Nativo land lying idle in tho vicinity of Tolago Bay. (2) That tho Hon. James Carroll ask tho Government to acquire agricultural land in particular for closer sottlomont. A petition for tho cutting up oi more land in tho district has boon largely signod and forwardod to Hon, Mr Carroll. Tho Dairy Company, although successfully floatod, finds. it is impossible to commonco operations this sonson owing to tho shortage of cows and not enough dairy land being made available.
