IMPORTED VEHICLES.

I Wellington, last night. I A deputation of coaohbuilders from Auokland, Christohurob, Dunedin and. Wellington waited on the Premier this' evening with a request that increased duties be imposed upon imported vehicles I in order that the coachbuilding industry in New Zealand might be saved from exj unction. Importation was increasing | yearly, local industry was deoayiDg, and New Zealand factories would Bimply become repair shops. In 1900 there were 237 vehicles imported of the value of I £3OOO, iu 1904 there were 692 vehioles im-1 ported valued at £IO,OOO, and in five years J 2670 vehicles were imported valued at £46,388. , The Premier gave a sympathetic reply. There was, however, no chance of the tariff being altered this session, and he f could not indioate any alteration in the ' tariff, as it would disturb trade,
