VICTORIA DOMAIN

REPORT OF TRUSTEES.

At the meeting of the Borough Counoil last evening the following report was reoeived from the Trustees, Messrs Edward Murphy and J. W. Nolan, in regard to the Victoria Domain: —

“In reply to your enquiries we have pleasure in supplying you with the following particulars regarding expenditure on the Victoria Domain sinoe the commencement of our lease. From Ist January, 1898 to 31st December, 1801, the ground was managed by the Amalgamated Sports Association under the supervision of the trnsteeß. During that time tbe Association collected £277 Is from the different athletic institutions and their friends. This amount was spent on improving the ground so as to allow it to be used for* the purpose described in the lease,the principal terns were—Brick culvert altering course of Borough drain, £72 16s 6d : levelling part of ground, £140; fencing and planting hedge, £3O. The ground still being in a very rough elate and having. do further

funds the Trustees asked the Povorty Bay Bugby Union to assume oontrol of the ground, whioh they did on January, 1902. S noo that timo the Union has expended <£2oß on levelling and othor permanent improvements to the ground. The Union has now in oourso of vorootion a pavilion and dressing rooms, to cost <£l6o. The total amount spent on permanent improvements up to date is as follows: —Amalgamated Sports Assoointion, -£277 Is; Povorty Bay footballers, *£363 10s 8d; making a total of <£64o Us 3d. In addition to the above amount the members of the different atbletio institutions organised working boos, and for over twolvo months spent almost every fine Thursday [ afternoon at the Domtiaandprobably saved another <£loo by their own special offorts. Wo might mention that in addition to the <£B63 expended by tho footballers union sinoo thoy assumed oontrol, they havo voted some <£4o to the Sports Association, so that their contributions to the ground amounts to over <£4oo, and tho whole of this amount has been voted from their own funds. As trustees we feel that the. Poverty Boy Rugby Union are to be complimented on tho generous spirit whioh has prompted them during their oontrol of the ground.— Edward Murphy and J. W. Nolan, Trustees.” The Town Clerk stated the Council received the sum of <£lo per year for the ground, but the rent was spent in Improvements. For the first 7of the 21 years for whioh tho ground was leased tho rent wen! to the oost of the briok oulvort and altering the oourso of the Borough drain. The trustees asked that the rent should in future be devoted towards paying half oost of the building ereoted. At the end of the 21 years the whole of tho improvements would revert to the Counoil.

Members expressed themselves highly satisfied with the improved state of the Domain, and the request of the Trustees in regard to the rebate of rent was unanimously agreed to.
