DAMAGE BY FLOOD.
Per Press Association. Napier, last night. A conference of delegates from various local bodies, to consider the question of floods protection, was held this morning. A. resolution was passed unanimously, “ That the Government be askad to pas 3 an Act forming a central river board, comprising and amalgamating the existing river board districts, the district to be divided into wards of as noarly as possible equal rating value, each ward returning one or more members, tho rating basis to be the same as now existiog, with power to obtain loans.” Mr Lister, chairman of the Clive River Board, said that the Clivo people wero quite willing to agree to a central river board provided thair interests ware protected. Mr Hales this afternoon visited Meanee for the purpose of ascertaining the approximate cost of repairing the main damage to the bank at that place, aud he will forward the particu'ars to tho Minister for Public Works, with a recommendation that the Government grant a subsidy in aid.
