Deceased was a captain of coastal, steamers trading between Wel«mgton and Nelson in tho early days. He has a married daughter living at Nelson.
An eight-roomed house at Tawa Piat. owned by Smoxtod, was totally destroyed by fico last night. It was insured for .£350 in the Sun offioe, and tho furniture for £IOO ■in tho Liverpool, London and Globe. Mr Justice Cooper to-day refused leave to appeal for a new trial in the ease o£ Mads Braderson, found guilty of incest.
