SIR JOSEPH WARD ON WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.
(Per Press Association.) j Invercargill, last night. The Postma3ter-General laid the foundation stone of the poet-office at Winton, which is in his electorate, to-day. It is to bo a brick building, 40ft by 63ft, and twostoreyed, including a postmaster’s residence. The contract price was £2190. Tbo station at Gore was opened yesterday by Sir Joseph Ward. It was built to replace that destroyed by fire some month* ago. The buildiog and appactenauoes on a scale with the growing importance ot tbo town and district. The oost was £2435.
Spoaking at Winton to-day Sir Joseph Ward said he hoped, with the co-operation of the Federal Government, to see wireless telegraphy established across the Tasman Sea within twelve months. The station would ba at this end of the island, and there would probably be transmitting stations at Auckland and Macquarrie and Lord Howe islands. The oost would be about £28,000.
