THE PREMIER’S REPLY.
(Per Press i Wellington, Saturday. After the telegraph office closed last night Mr Seddou replied, and brought the financial debate to a close. He Baid the revenue for the first four months of the ourrent year was £78,230 in excess of the figures for the corresponding period of the previous year. Dealing with expenditure on tho West Coast of the South Island, ho said the Government intended to have a complete statement made out of the moneys spent in tho various districts, and he declared that such a statement would show that the West Coast of the South Island had been badly treated. As to the Government Life Insurance Department, he gave figures to show that it compared more than favorably with the A.M.P. and National Mutual Company, and declared also that adverse criticism had helped to injure the State Insurance Department. As to the State Eire Insurance Department, ho Btated that the sum assured was over a million pounds, and the nefi losses totalled £421. .
“ New Zealand is a fair country,” said the Premier in conclusion, and ho declared that its finance was in a sound condition. The House then went into Committee of Supply for the consideration of the Estimates, and progress was immediately reported. The House rose at 1,20 a.m,
