A SHOCKING CASE,

Charles Nelson, for forgery, was admitted to probation on payment of the value of the .cheque and, £3o.’ The jury.,found Claude Patterson: guilty of having falsely alleged that he h&d posted a letter containing money. Prisoner was admitted to probation for 12 months. His Honor reserved a law point for the Court of Appeal. -m :; Wellington, last night.
At the Supreme Court to-day Charles Crawford was acquitted on a charge of. stealing luggage from the Te Aro railway; .station. • . • -.tv) • Christchurch, last night.
- In the case against Mrs Woods, for the defence evidence was given by medical: witnesses that the. accused had ■ under tho circumstances acted, reasonably and properly, and a verdict of not guilty was returned. The jury i added a rider " that houses of the description kept’by Mrs Wood would be better if they were licensed, properly equipped, and under medical supervision. The bill of indictment against Nurse Atkinson, who had strapped the girl to the bed under direction from Mrs Wood, was thrown out by the grand jury. John Boss was convicted of having used a spot on the road,'immediately outside Plumpton Park, while a race meeting was ia progress for the purpose of betting. He was ordered to pome up far sentence when called upon, ponding legal argument as to whether the spot used by accused was a place under the Act. The criminal session has concluded.
