FARMERS’ UNION

The Provincial Executive of • the Farmers’ Union held their monthly meetiog yesterday, there being present: Messrs Chambers (President), Watson, Wallis, Wall, Lysnar, Somerville, Kenway, Clayton, F. J. Lysnar, and Holden.

Mr Carroll wrofco stating that bo had brought under the notice of the Chief Judge tho request that tho sittings of the Native Land Court be hold in the district more expeditiously aad regularly. The Hawke's Bay Union wrote favoring affiliation with Poverty Bay in fire insurance, but stated tbat until tho directors were elected nothing could bo done. Tho Motu branch wrote asking the Executive's support in requesting the Government to lay off a lowDship at Motu, ns the present stata of affairs was hindering tho progress of the district ; also, that the new Opotiki road be formod as far as Barker Bros., which was at the end of the settlement at present.—Resolution to be forwarded to tho Government with the Executive’s support. The Gisborne branch wrote asking tho Exeoutiye'o support in obtaining a reduction of freights. After considerable discussion tho resolution was adopted,’and it was decided that the Executive meet a committee of the Gisborne branch and discuss what steps should be taken in the matter. -

The Act suggested by Mr Ritchie,, secretaty to the Agricultural Department, in regard to earmarks was discussed, and Messrs Watson, Konwoy, Somerville and Clayton wore appointed a committee to consider the schema, and commanioate with Mr Ritchie,

Mr Clayton reported op the Colonial Conference at Wellington, Itwasdooidgd to print the report. The levy for the year was fixed at 4a. 'Mr Clayton was re-elected seoretery.
