Mr Quano, Chairman of the Chambor of Commerce, has received a lattor from the West Coast Bailway League, Hokitika, stating that a strong deputation will be organised on the Coast to make another appeal to the in connection with the Midland railway. A deputation leaves for Wellington on August 24tb, and tho League expresses a hope that Canterbury will send representatives to) join those from West'and. Tbo Westland deputation strongly urge; that a contract should bo let for the big tunnel so that the whole may bo speedily executod. The criminal sittings of the Supremo Court opens on Monday. Fourteen cases are jdown for hearing, involving 16 [accused. The charges comprise false pretences, theft, illegal betting, manslaughter, indecent assault, arson and burglary.
