A BRUTAL MURDER,

VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER.

By telegraph, Press Ass’n, Cooyrigh * - Reoeiued 9.50 p.m., July 28. Melbourne, July 28.

Edwards was found guilty of she manslaughter of Skinner, and was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment. Mr Justice Hood said the facts of the case would have amply justified the jury iu finding a verdict of wilful and deliberate murder, but tho ingenuity and eloquence of tho defence had led to n verdiot of manslaughter. It was a brutal, horrible offence, and there was nothing in the crime itself, or circumstances afterwards, to dealing leniently with tho prisoner.
