THE NEW HEBRIDES QUESTION

In tho House Mr Higgins called attention to tho Fronoh Commission’s report cablod yesterday, recammendingan annual grant for the benefit of settlers of New Hebrides. Ha asked Mr Daakin to see that tho Australian Government was consulted before the New Hebrides Land Court was appointed. Mr Deakin replied that ho had every reason to believe that the course suggested would oertainly bo followed by. the Imperial Government. Negotiations regarding tho suggested Land Court bad been inordinately prolonged. So far there was hothing to show that any progress had been made. The proposals of the French Commission contained no novel ‘ ioatnre, but that ealled attsntion once more to the fact that considerable sums ware being expended out of French funds to benefit Bottlers in the Now Hebrides. An arrangement had been imminent from the date of the friendly agreement with France.
