The Acclimatisation Societies’ annual Conference was heid in Wellington to-day. A resolution passed at laßt year’s Conference for the prohibition of excessive or unsportsmanlike destruction of native or imported game was re-affirmed, with the addition of a clause including deeoy and cylinder shooting under the heading of unsportsmanlike devices. With regard to the restriction of hours for shooting, it was resolved that no shooting of native or imported game bo allowed betwesnjihe hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. This was practically re-affirming a motion passed at last year’s Conference. \ Mr L. Tripp moved, on behalf of the Wellington Society, that steps be taken to provide sanctuaries for deer, and that no persons be allowed to enter the sanctuaries with rifle or gun. He was satisfied that unless deer had a sanotury here there would be no stalking. The motion was carried.
The Ashburton and Canterbury Societies’ delegates moved that freezing companies be prohibited from storing or selling game, except during that period when tbe Bale of game ia allowed.—Carried.
The Canterbury Society delegate moved that the sale of game birds imported £o the colony in freezers be prohibited during the olose season.
It was agreed to add to the resolution the words “ except with the Colonial Secretary’s consent,” and this was carried. A resolution passed at last conference that it be a recommendation to.
