BATTLE OF TSUSHIMA,
By telegraph, Press Ass’n, Copy*i£ht
Sydney, July 27 Files of the Singapore Free Press con tain the following vivid account of the Battle of Tsushima by Captain Pernitz, of the sulvago vessel Buss, which was lost in the Tsushima holocaust. Ho spent a fow hours in Singapore on his way home. The captain expressed his opinion ftooly, and shouts out his contempt "'at ail tho Grand Dulsob and mo3t of tho admirals. Ho snorts disgust when told of Togo’s triumph, and laughs in his beard when he recounts his own adventures in the memorablo engQgemont- Tho engugemonb from tho Russian point of view wasn’t worthy of tho name. “ Call it,” ho says, “ a wild scramble for safety, shelter, anywhere.” “ Roshdestveneky was taken by surprise, completely surroundod and bewildered by the develish cunning of tho Japanese. They had a huge dummy fleet of wooden ships, a marvellons imitation of the real article, with guns and fighting tops, and all, lying off the Pescadores. u Of this supposed squadron our admiral had information, and passing the Pescadores without hurt, wo imagined there was not sufficient weight behind tho remainder of Togo’s fleet to provent tho greater portion of our Armada making Viadivostoek. Then we were trapped, surrounded, and in reality defeated before tho fight began.” Roshdostvonsky, according ‘to the “captain was the only fighting man of any value among the leaders of Russia’s forlorn hope. Niebogatoil and others were little better than traitors. They[j are disgraced for over. Scarcely one of the Russian warships gave battle in the true sense of the word. The whole navy seemed dazzled by tho suddenness of tho attack in overwhelming force of the enemy. There • sßems to have been no proper understanding between the various commanders as to whether they were all to out and run or stand and fire. Some did the former, a few adopted the lattor, and the result was a demoralisation, complete and pitiable.
