SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
YOUNG MAN LOSES HIS HAND.
A yonng man named-Edwara Kennedy, J aged about 17, in the employ of Mr Wm. I Richardson, of Mangarangi, Waimata Valley, yesterday morning met with a very I BBrious aocident. He left the homestead at about half-past nine to go round tho I sheep in'the usual way at this time of the j year, and took with him a gun in the hoge of getting a shot at a turkey. He sighted I some turkeys belonging to the place half I an hour after leaving the house. He fired, I and the gun bursting badly shattered hie left hand. He got back to the house as soon as possible, suffering great pain, and I was at once attended toby Mr Biohard. son, who did the best he could under the circumstances. Tho buggy and pair wore got ready as soon as pos*ibi"e, and town was reached in the remarkably quick time of 3 hours, a telephone message in the meantime being sent to Dr MortisOD. The ! sufferer was conveyed to the Hospital, where it was found that the shattered hand must be amputated; otherwise the patient was in grave danger of losing his life. The operation was performed by Dr Morrison, and the patient’s condition last night was as favorable as could be expected. It is feared that he has also received some shot in tha leg. Tho gun was a double-barrelled muzzleloader, by an English maker, and was regarded as an exceptionally good one. Mr Richardson had himself made use of it on Monday morning, and it was in good condition. Mr Kennedy himself thinks that ho had misloaded the guo, and it is quite probable that in climbing the hills ho had got clay wedged into one of tha barrels of tbe gun. '
