THE PARK RACECOURSE.
BOROUGH COUNCIL FAVORABLE TO PURCHABE. -
A special meeting of the. Borough Council was held lasi evening to consider tho question of acquiring the Park Raoacourse os a recreation ground for Gisborne. There wore present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Townley), Crs. Whinray, Rees, Miller, Bright, Webb. Lysoar and Sheridan. Members generally expressed themselves as favorablo to tho acquisition of the ground for public purposes add after a lengthy disoussion Or Bright' moved tha following report of the oommittoo b# adopted:— . . ; “ The Committoo appointed to enquire nto tho question of the Council taking over tho Pack grounds met on the 25th • July, 1905, and they were unanimous that it would be iu tho best interests of the public to do so, and they would reoommend tho Council, if they are of tho same opinion, to empower tho Committee to approach the Park Company with a view of endeavouring to arrange to pnrohaseiyJjM the grounds for general publio purposes.’’ '7"£., Cr Whinray said that as far as ho could learn tho Park Company were now in a position to dispose oi the property. The Council would have to approach the Rao- , ing Club on the question. Cr Whinray added : “ Tho Chairman wants to keep it running, giving the shareholders nothing.” Apologies fur non-attendance at the ’ Council meeting and expressing approval of tbe acquisition of the Park ground were roooived from Crs. Harding and Colley. Members expressed their satisfaction that the Council were unanimous on ika question.
