FEDERAL PARLIAMENT.
THE DEAKIN POLICY. By telegraph, Press Aas’n, Copyright Received 9.50 p.m., July 26. Melbourne, July 26. The Federal Parliament re-assembled to-day. Mr Deakin, ini his policy statement, announced that the Ministry had decided to adhere to the practical policy sanctioned by the country at tbe last general election, and already submitted to the House. This included taking over the debts of the States, Federal old age pensions, encouragement of rural occupation in particular by moans of preferential trade, bounties for now produots, more speedy and ohoaper transport of products, the attraction of population, appointment of a High Commissioner, Navigation and Shipping Bill, Iron Bonus Bill, and ocean mail contracts question. The Budget will be framed on the lines outlined in 1904 It is proposed to continue the sugar bounty for a further period. The question of defence, in view of recent developments, will receive speoial attention. A long list of minor Bills was also mentioned. On the motion of Mr Reid the debate and Houbb was adjourned.
