GERMANS IN PACIFIC.

Mr Carruthers, in the Assembly, stated that in April last the Agent-General was informed by the Colonial Office that the whole quostion of British trade in the Gorman islands of the Pacific was engaging the earnest attention of tbe Imperial Government. Later, the Agent-General cabled that Germany appeared desirous of outwearing the patianoo of the parties interested. A suggestion by tho various Agents-General that no orders be placed in Germany until redress was granted was under consideration.
The Herald, urging the necessity of dealing with the matter, saya their scheme of land grants, combined with Che proposed penal settlement, threatens to give us a highly undesirable neighbor. Wo have escaped tho menace of French criminality only to find that Australia is face to faoe with a similar possibility from Germany,
