The defence set up is that she was never married to James, had never been in New Zealand, the children were not hers, and that her sister was the wife of James. James stated he met her as Nellie Stone, thes a house and parlor maid at Mr Rolleston’s, when he was Minister of Mines. Accused was married under the name of Drummond, stating that Stone was an assumed- name.
