Wellington, last night. At the Agricultural Conference, Mr Kirk, Government biologist, referring to the potato blight, emphasised the necessity of spraying, beoause unless there was a very dry season farmers would suffer more severely during the coming season than j last year. On ,tbe lowest estimate he plaoed the loss by the potato disease at J £132,000. I Mr Glass, Westland, moved that the I Department of Agriculture be urged to do I mors to instruot settlers in the latest I methods of oheose and butter making. The j secretary to the Department said the J matter was under consideration. The j Chief Dairy Commissioner said that while | they recognised that something should' be 1 done they were afraid of encouraging J private butter making. The motion was j carried. it was resolved that the Department of Agriculture be requested to arrange for the delivery of lectures on veterinary subjects to farmers in suoh centres as the Department may be requested, provided sufficient attendance is guaranteed.
