Tbo new soheme for providing workers with homes, alluded 'to by the Premier, was suggested by Mr F. Watts, of New Plymoush,.wbo is now in Wellington. At tho "invitation of the, Government he elaborated details, Ministers regard the' proposal very favorably, and.intend,to put it on trial at Spotawood, a suburban block near New Plymouth, acquired by the Government.some,time ago. Thejidea is that a man desirous of acquiring, a house should take out an endowment' poliey for'2o or 26 years, and pay yearly an .amount sufficient, to cover the premium and in suranpe on the house. At the end of the term the property beoomes'his own. The Premier said he thought he could' see his way to provide a house under this scheme Worth H 350. for 10s a week.
