He was engaged by Bishop Selwyn to build Bishopsoourt, Parnell, and Bishop Patterson took him down to Norfolk Island, where he erected the first building therefor tho MelaDesian mission. He was also closely associated in tho early days with Sir William Martin, In his younger days ho served with the militia through the Maori war, for wbioh he received the Neiv -Zealand war medal.

News from Samoa states that everything is quiet. The Gorman paper says the Governor has [dissolved tho native Govern-. ment at Mulinuu. Faipulo is actively removing from Mulinuu. Mataafa is doing bis utmost to assist the Governor and consign the late rash act of the natives to oblivion. Taxes are being paid promptly, and it can be safely, assumed that the in* cidont which caused so much alarm belongs to the buried past.
