FIRE BRIGADES BILL.

The Hon. J. Carroll, who has chai-ge of the Fire Brigades Bill, was waited on by Messrs Lautenson and Kidd, who spoke in support of tho measure. Under the Bill fire insurance companies and local authorities are to contribute to the maintenance of firo brigades. With the two members of the Houes of Representatives were Mr Robin (Mayor of Hawera) Captaia Toomey (Lyttelton Fire Brigade); and Captain Hugo (Wellington Fire Brigade). Mr Carroll said be quite agreed with the deputation that every despatch should be used in getting the Bill passod. Tho approval of the Bill by tho recent fire brigades conference would help in the desired direction. Ho would bring tho Bill before tho House within a fortnight, and the Government would give it every possible chance of becoming law.
