BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
(Per Press Association.) Wollingtoo, last night. Tho Wellington Diocesan Synod wa occupied to-night with a discussion con' corning Bible-reading in schools, tho Rev C. C. Harper moving that the Synod urge most strongly on all church people the duty of doing their utmost to further the objoots of tho Biblo-in-Soho de Referendum League. The mover said the idea was to direct the thought of children to the ethical molding underlying the lessons- givon. They refused tbe system of reading without comment. Thoy wanted children to be taught. It was intended to teach Ohristiau religion. Tho subject was debated from both points of view, and adjourned UDtil tomorrow for further cousideiation. The chief ground of opposition to tho motion waa that tho church itself should undertake the teaching of religion, and not shift tho duty on to tho shoulders of the State. Later. —At to-night’s session of tbe Wellington Diocesan Synod tho Biblo in schools debate was continued, and by 69 votes to 12 it was decided to urge church people to support tho Bible in Schools Referendum League.
