Invercargill, yesterday. At the Police Court to-day Daniel Swan was charged with the murder of his wife. Evidenoo was called showing aoonsed’s conduot towards his wife had been bad for years, that he had been sentenced to a month's imprisonment for brutal assault on her, that a separation order had been granted, and aoonsed was prohibited. Invercargill, last night. The hearing of the charge of murdering his wife, preferred against Daniel Swan, was not concluded when the Court rose for the day. Tha evidence was to the same effect as that given at the inquest. One of his sons said that accused's head was penetrated by a stone some years ago, and it was supposed to be still embedded. His head would at times swell oyer the seat Of the injury. The latest occasion was the only one in whioh ho had known aoonsed to aitaok his wifo without a preliminary altercation.
