ASSESSMENT COURT.

A sitting of the Assessment Court was held yesterday Jet the Magistrate’s Court to hear objections to the revised distriot valuation roll fer the Borough and County. COUNTY VALUATIONS.

The Court for the County valuation consisted of Messrs W. A. Barton, B.M . W. 3ievwright, and W. G. Maclanrin, and Messrs O. F. Lewis and H. J. Coutts, Government valuers, appeared for the Department. The first three objections were struck out on aooouct - of the non-appearance of objectors. E. P. Joyco objected to the valuations oi hie town sections at Tolago Bay, which wero too high. The sections war* covered with gorse. They wore bought seven years ago at £5 each, and could not have risen three'timos in value in the time. Mr iCoutts stated that the Cook County Council ,c?«re objecting to the valuations as too 'dow. The valuations were sustained. W. B. Common objected to his sections aA Tolago being valued at £35. The valuations were sustained. The Cook County Council objected to the valuations of Tolago sections as too iow- Mr J. Warren, Connty Clerk, appeared in support, and stated that sections in Tolago had been valued at £5, but were worth £2O an acre owing to their proximity to the town. He had been informed by the owner of a comer section near the bridge tfe*e jbo would sell for £3OO, and owners of section*- fp the vicinity *ar*,ntad £SO. A number of other objections wore struck out owing to the non-appearanco of objectors. BOROUGH VALUATIONS.

| The Court far the Borough valuations I consisted of Messrs W. A. Barton, S.M., I W. Sievwrtght and W. E. Akroyd. Messrs C. F. Lewis and BT. J. C. Coutts appeared I for tho Department. Francis Stafford objected to the valuation of £520, unimproved value,on sections IS and 14, Stout-street, Wbataupoko, half an aore eaoh. He considered the value was i excessive, and did not think the land was worth more than £350 or £4OO. A section next to him was sold for £350.

O. F. Lewis, Distriot Valuer, stated that I he valued the building on part 15 as worth ' £4OO, and the property sold for £6OO. There was only a quartor of an aero between that and Mr Stafford’s. It was a corner section. That would be at,the rate of £BOO an acre. Part section 18 was sold for £220. He valued the improvements at £25, which brought the section down to £195. —The valuation was sustained.

Francis, Stafford also objected to the [ valuation of £250, unimproved value, on l section 35, Ormond road, Whatanpoko, ! containing two roods. He recently purchased the seotion for £l2O. Ho did not think it had increased £l3O in value, hut thought it was worth £l5O. Mr Lewis pointed out that sections had recently been sold in the stme street at £IOO a quarter sore. Another one on the baok road, on the oorner (of Clifford street, section 410, a half aore, was sold in its rough state for £215, and section 24, containing half an acre and a building valued

at £175, opposite the one in question, was sold for £460. Another seotion in Clifford street was sold for £425, half aore. including a good building.—Tho valuation was sustained. A number of farther objections by Mr Stafford were withdrawn. The succeeding 40 objections were struck out owing to the non-appearance of the objeotors, and the valuations were sustained. The Court adjourned until 10 o’olock this morning, when an objection to a valuation for tho county will be dealt with. This will conclude the sitting.
