(Per Press Association.) | Wanganui, last night. An oldoriy widow named Mrs Mary Johnston committed suicide to-day by drinking a solution of match heads. Christchurch, last night. Mr T. Clarkson, a candidate for the Avon seat, addressed a meeting of electors to-night. He expressed himself opposed to the present party system, and favored an elective Exeoutivo and the referendum. Ho generally followed the policy of the new Progressive Liberal party. Ho stated 6hat ho would support Mr Seddon so long as the Premier’s measures agreed with his (the speaker’s) views.
